Diagnostics

Several diagnostic methods are available to investigate allergies.

1. Skin test

In prick, scratch or intracutaneous tests, selected allergens are applied to or introduced into the upper layers of the skin. The size and intensity of the skin reaction indicate how sensitively the body reacts to the substances tested.

2. Blood test (RAST)

A blood test can detect specific antibodies against certain allergens. Results must always be interpreted together with the symptoms actually experienced, as a laboratory finding alone does not necessarily indicate a clinically relevant allergy.

We offer a state-of-the-art test for 295 allergens directly in our practice. As a self-pay service, it can be booked directly.

3. Provocation test

If symptoms are unclear, the nasal response can be tested specifically. Nasal airflow is measured by rhinomanometry before and after exposure to a suspected allergen. This can also detect local reactions that were not clearly visible in skin testing.
