Digital volume tomography (DVT)

High-resolution 3-D imaging directly in our practice.

For selected ENT questions – particularly involving the paranasal sinuses and bony structures of the head – we use the SCS MedSeries® H23. The examination produces detailed three-dimensional sectional images within a few seconds.

High detail resolutionAccording to the manufacturer, the H23 achieves isotropic resolution down to 75 µm, allowing very fine bony structures to be visualised.
Significantly lower radiation doseAccording to SCS, radiation exposure can be at least 50% lower than conventional computed tomography for comparable tasks. The actual dose depends on the selected protocol and examination volume.
Particularly useful for the sinusesFor suitable indications, DVT can provide high-resolution 3-D imaging of the paranasal sinuses while reducing radiation exposure compared with a conventional sinus CT.

What can be examined?

Typical applications include chronic sinus disease, anatomical narrowing, bony changes of the midface and selected questions involving the middle and inner ear. We decide whether DVT is appropriate after medical examination and on the basis of a justified indication.

Imaging directly in our practice

The scan takes only a few seconds. The 3-D data are then immediately available for diagnosis and treatment planning, allowing imaging and further care to be closely coordinated without an additional radiology appointment.

Technical specifications and dose comparison are based on manufacturer information for the SCS MedSeries® H23; actual radiation exposure depends on the examination protocol used.
